Day 4: Hospital visit and assembling bunk beds at an orphanage

Day 4,
Another hot day in sunny Haiti! The day started for some of us with sunrise church and a hike through the streets and alleyways back to the guest house.  After another delicious breakfast we took a not so smooth ride to the home of sick and dying adults. We were blessed with the opportunity to step out of our comfort zones and overcome our discomfort as we ministered to the women through massage and nail painting.  As we cared for the women we were serenaded by the lovely music  of Jenna, from Kumbya  to Rihanna. Although we couldn't relieve their pain we were able to help them die with a small amount of dignity.

In the afternoon we visited La Phere orphanage and school. There through the generous donation of a company back in the states we were able to assemble 11 bunk beds and provide mattresses and bedding for the children. Laurene had the opportunity to be taught how to make a proper Haitian bed by one of the 11 year old boys. He was a stringent inspector and would re-make any bed if she did not do it well enough. They were so appreciative to no longer be sleeping on cardboard on the cement floors. We were also able to do a short craft project with the children and play with them.

It was beautiful to see how the orphans cared for one another, making beds helping others write their names and caring for the little ones.  Laurie had the privilege of snatching a sleeping precious little girl from a 8 year old boy so he could do his craft project. She slept for an hour and the moment she awoke  the children were coming to care for her again. The couple who ran the orphanage gave us a beautiful blessing and led the children in numerous songs of gratitude.  We wrapped up our day with a lovely swim in the hotel pool down the block.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.
